Dear Cadets

 

Are you up for the challenge of a life time?

 

For 2017 Bristol & Gloucestershire Wing, have set the challenge for a group of dedicated, motivated cadets to take on an adventure in Canada. The projected area of operation is Calgary, Banff.

 

The Expedition will include:

  • Six Day multi-activity trek in Banff
  • Site visits
  • British overseas base visit
  • Local engagements

 

Expedition objectives - To develop in individuals, some of the qualities of fitness, physical and moral courage, initiative, powers of endurance and leadership through group participation in challenge pursuits and to identify and train future staff of the ACO.

 

Ownership - Cadets will have the opportunity to take full ownership of the program and activities to make the most of the time spent in Canada.

 

Trek – The expedition will partake in a six day multi activity Trek in Alberta’s Rockies along the Trans-Canada Highway.

 

Accommodation – The Expeditions Canada Headquarters will be based at the British army camp in Suffield. Called Trail End Camp (TEC) is superbly located adventure training (AT) centre near to Banff National Park, in the Canadian Rockies. It is located approx. 70 mins from Calgary airport and 1hr from Banff town.

 

Dates - We will travel to Canada via London Heathrow departing early in the morning of the Thursday 27/07/2017 and will return late evening on Wednesday 09/08/2017

 

Cost – We do our utmost to minimise costs to enable the expedition to be as affordable as possible for cadets. By using qualified volunteer ACO Staff and utilising British forces in Canada as support, we can provide a two week expedition and evening activities for hundreds of pounds less than comparable companies. The approx. total price for cadets will be £1500 per cadet. There will be several fundraising events in order to bring the price down for those selected to attend, a £300 non-refundable deposit is payable on 1 June 2016 and the balance in instalments from July 2016 to June 2017. Instalment payments can be made either by standing order (details will be sent on request) or cheque. At present the cost is approximate and we will inform you of any changes by June 2016. (Please note there will be a small cost for the training weekends)

 

Selection – A mandatory selection weekend will be held in late Feb – 27th to 28th. more details will be given out at the interest evening.

 

Interest evening – There will be an evening held at 2152 (North Bristol) Sqn on Tuesday 26th January at 19:30.

Age – Minimum age for the camp is seventeen on date of travel on 27/07/2017 (i.e. born before/on 27/JUL/2000)

 

Places – The overall numbers for the trip are limited to fourteen (14) cadets

 

Fitness – we are not after athletes, however cadets will need to be of good fitness to cope with the long days. There will be training dates to ensure that the cadets meet the requirements needed

 

Achievements – for cadets who are selected, throughout the training and expedition cadets will gain several qualifications and competency life skills.
