Air Cadet's D-Day Expeditions
Twenty six air cadets from Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing completed Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions visiting historic sites in Normandy days before the 70th anniversary of D-Day. The cadets trekked on foot for three days across the coast and countryside liberated in the Allied invasion of Europe before parading in uniform to pay their respects to the fallen at the British Cemetery at Bayeux and the US Cemetery at Omaha Beach. At Bayeux the wreath was laid by a cadet whose great great grandfather is buried in the cemetery. Finally, the cadets made a presentation to Madame Arlette Gondree at Gondree Cafe at Pegasus Bridge who was one of the first French citizens liberated by the Parachute Regiment on 6 June 1944.
