2328 (Bishop’s Cleeve) Squadron celebrates its Diamond Anniversary by winning prestigious awards

2328 (Bishop’s Cleeve) Squadron celebrated its Diamond Anniversary by picking up a number of prestigious awards including the Honourable Company of Gloucestershire’s Community Trophy, Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing Sports’ Trophy and Cheltenham Royal Air Force Association Wings’ Appeal leading RAF Air Cadet Squadron.

Representatives of The Honourable Company, led by its Warden, Air Marshal Sir Dusty Miller KBE, graced the Squadron with their presence to present the Company’s Community Trophy. It was awarded in recognition of the huge contribution 2328 makes to its local community. This not only includes supporting community events but helping to organise them. The unit’s Commanding Officer is a key member of the organising committee of both Bishop’s Cleeve and Woodmancote Fetes. 2328 Squadron also supports a wide variety of events and helps RAF Air Cadets from other units achieve their Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards.

2328 Squadron was presented with an RAF commemorative book by the Cheltenham Branch of the Royal Air Force Association in recognition of raising £912 for the Wings’ Appeal. One 2328 cadet raised £304 by himself and epitomises the Squadron’s selfless community service.

At the same ceremony, 2328 Squadron was presented with the Bristol and Gloucestershire Wing Sport’s Trophy in recognition of its cadets’ sporting achievements in the 2017-18 season. Wing Commander David Cox MBE, Officer Commanding Bristol & Gloucestershire Wing, presented the trophy to the Wing’s Top Female Sports’ Cadet who is from 2328 Squadron.

The evening was capped off with news that a 2328 Squadron cadet won Gloucestershire Royal British Legion’s Youth Standard Bearer Competition and will carry the Youth Standard at a number of very important events in the coming year. This is the second year in the last three that a 2328 cadet has won the competition.

The amazing awards are the result of sustained effort and demonstrate what can be achieved out of a small headquarters.
